Songkran at Khao Kheow Open Zoo Near Pattaya Bustles with Tourists Flocking to See 9-Month-Old Pygmy Hippo Moo Deng

On April 14th, 2025, Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Sri Racha, Chonburi, was brimming with excitement during the long Songkran holiday weekend. Thai and international tourists flooded the zoo, many arriving as families to participate in activities celebrating Thai culture and the Thai New Year.

Mr. Narongwit Chodchoi, the zoo’s director, revealed that a major highlight was “Moo Deng” a 9-month-old female pygmy hippo who has quickly become a global favorite. Her adorable and playful nature drew crowds, with many families bringing children to snap photos and enjoy her charm.

Visitors also met other hippo family members, alongside new zoo stars like a baby zebra, and the “Four Little Ones,” newborn capybaras from the famously stoic-faced gang.
Popular activities included feeding antelopes, giraffes, white rhinos, and capybaras, as well as close encounters with ring-tailed lemurs on a water-surrounded island. The warm, joyful atmosphere delighted visitors of all ages.

Happy Songkran!
