Thailand, April 11th, 2025 — Pol. Col. Thitipong Piwatwutthikul, Deputy Commander of Metropolitan Police Division 2, revealed that forensic teams, alongside the DSI, collected 12 concrete core samples from each zone of the State Audit Office collapse site for detailed analysis of potential structural flaws.
The samples, taken from columns and flooring using cylindrical drilling techniques, are set to be tested at King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology and the Iron and Steel Institute of Thailand. Initial steel examination results have already been received but remain confidential within the investigation file.
Pol. Col. Thitipong stated that early physical inspections of the steel suggest details about the origin, batch, and manufacturing process, while concrete chemical analysis results are still pending. He affirmed that all forensic procedures are in line with engineering principles and coordinated closely with police civil engineering experts.
The main challenge, he said, has been timing evidence collection to avoid disrupting ongoing rescue efforts. Teams now plan to collect samples during morning hours when rescue crews are on break.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul addressed victim compensation, confirming a 200-million-baht emergency fund for disaster relief.
He also stated that any conclusions on the collapse’s cause must be based strictly on verified scientific and engineering evidence. Preliminary signs exist, he noted, but the official review panel must finalize its findings without outside influence.
