Pattaya police began their holiday road safety campaign at midnight on April 11th by setting up a sobriety checkpoint to crack down on drunk driving and other illegal activities in preparation for the Songkran festival.
The sobriety checkpoint was set up at the Pattaya Second Road–Central Pattaya intersection as part of the “Seven Dangerous Days” road safety campaign.
The operation emphasized the “5 Checks” policy:
- Check the driver – Make sure drivers are well-rested and not under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs.
- Check the vehicle – Inspect brakes, tires, lights, and emergency equipment.
- Check the home – Secure homes before traveling and use the police home-watch program.
- Check the route – Plan ahead and be aware of traffic, weather, and roadworks.
- Check accounts – Beware of scams involving fake tickets or accommodations.
This marked the first day of the campaign, with police focusing on drunk driving and screening for firearms, drugs, and other illegal activities. Offenders found in violation of the law will face legal action.
