Pattaya, Thailand – This weekend, at the Indoor Sports Arena of the Eastern National Sports Center on Chaiyapruek Road, Pattaya Mayor Poramese Ngampichet warmly welcomed athletes and participants to the 2025 G H Bank Thailand Taekwondo Championships (Fighting Category). The opening ceremony was presided over by Mr. Danai Saengsrijan, Assistant Managing Director of Regional Branch Operations 3 at the Government Housing Bank (G H Bank), who served as the honorary chairman.
Mr. Thanadit Raktabutr, representing the Taekwondo Association of Thailand, emphasized that the 2025 G H Bank Thailand Taekwondo Championships is a group effort between the association and G H Bank, which has provided principal support for the event. Held from April 4-8, 2025, at the Indoor Sports Arena in Pattaya, Chonburi Province, this year’s competition has attracted over 2,500 athletes from across the country.
“This championship serves as a launchpad for emerging talents who aspire to join the national team and follow in the footsteps of their accomplished seniors, aiming to become top-tier taekwondo athletes on both national and global stages,” Mr. Thanadit stated. He added that the association remains committed to providing opportunities for all aspiring athletes.
The event has seen a steady increase in participation each year, with 2025 marking a record-breaking number of applicants—the highest in the association’s history. This surge reflects the growing popularity and appeal of taekwondo in Thailand, likely fueled by the inspiring achievements of Thai national team athletes like two time Olympic Gold Medalist “Tennis”. Their successes in regional competitions, including ASEAN and Asian championships, as well as global events like the Olympics, have brought pride and recognition to the country.
The rising interest in taekwondo is seen as a positive development for athletes, parents, training gyms, coaches, and the association alike, offering a broader pool of talent to scout and nurture for the national team.
