Thailand Ramps Up E-Cigarette Crackdown Amid Youth Concerns

Thailand, April 4th, 2025 — Minister Attached to the Prime Minister’s Office Jiraporn Sindhuprai chaired a recent multi-agency meeting to address the growing spread of e-cigarettes among youth.

She stated that the government is intensifying its efforts through suppression, public awareness, and legal reform. The Customs Department has ramped up border enforcement, with recent seizures of smuggled e-cigarettes now under investigation by the Department of Special Investigation (DSI).

Domestically, police are targeting both physical and online retailers, in cooperation with the Interior Ministry, the Consumer Protection Board, and the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO), which is tracing financial networks tied to the trade.

Since March 19th, over 5,800 tips have been submitted via a state-run app—3,400 involving online sellers and 2,300 physical shops. The Digital Government Development Agency (DGA) is working with big data platforms to display enforcement progress on a public dashboard.

Jiraporn also said public education efforts will intensify, especially in schools when the new term begins. Meanwhile, new customs regulations are being revised to close loopholes in container inspections, and officials are studying measures to blacklist companies importing illegal goods, preventing them from registering new businesses in the future.
