A 62-year-old American man was arrested for stealing from a donation box outside Pattaya Police Station early this morning, claiming he was desperate for food after losing his ATM card.
At 2:30 AM on April 2nd, Pattaya Police were alerted by the public about a foreign man stealing from a donation box in front of the police station. Upon receiving the report, the officer coordinated with patrol officers to investigate the scene.
At the scene, officers found a large, disheveled foreign man wearing shorts. He was using a stone to break open a stainless-steel donation box belonging to the Father Ray Foundation. He was in the process of taking coins, 100-baht bills, 20-baht bills, and foreign currency from the box and stuffing them into his wallet. Officers searched his luggage and found a wallet containing 20-baht and 100-baht bills, along with passport documents.
The suspect was identified as Mr. John, 62, an American national. He was taken into custody for further questioning.
During questioning through an interpreter, the foreign man claimed that he had been at a beer bar along Beach Road. He claimed he had lost his ATM card and had no money, so he decided to steal from the donation box to get money to buy food because he was very hungry.
The police initially detained the foreign suspect and will proceed with legal action accordingly.
