Thai Tourism Minister Pledges Swift Measures to Restore Confidence After Earthquake

Thailand, March 31st, 2025 — Tourism and Sports Minister Sorawong Thienthong chaired a meeting to assess the impact of the March 28 earthquake on the tourism sector. Government and private sector representatives discussed measures to restore confidence among domestic and international visitors.

Key proposals included appointing a “Single Command” authority to ensure clear and reliable communication, issuing safety certifications for hotels that pass structural inspections, and proactively reassuring tourists that other destinations in Thailand remain safe.

Minister Sorawong affirmed that these recommendations would be swiftly presented to the Prime Minister. He also urged all stakeholders to promote the “Thailand Tourist Police Application (TPB)” to enhance visitor safety, especially during the upcoming Songkran festival.

Authorities will integrate efforts with local and tourism police, utilizing innovations like CCTV surveillance to ensure a secure travel environment.
Minister Sorawong called on the media and public to help foster a warm and safe atmosphere for tourists, reinforcing Thailand’s reputation as a welcoming destination.

This comes even as the Thai Hotels Association warns of early checkouts and cancelled bookings from nervous tourists.
