Man Found Dead in Abandoned Sattahip Condo After Failed Scrap Metal Theft

Sattahip —

A 50-year-old man was found dead in an abandoned condominium in Sattahip after allegedly falling while attempting to steal scrap metal with a friend.

On March 30th, Na Jomtien Police received a report of a deceased man found in an abandoned condominium in Moo 2, Na Jomtien, Sattahip. Upon receiving the report, police and a rescue unit from the Sawang Rojanatham Foundation rushed to the scene.

The scene was an abandoned eight-story condominium located about one kilometer from Sukhumvit Road, down a dirt alley. Authorities discovered the body of Mr. Somjai, 50, lying on his back in a pool of blood on the second floor. He was wearing a green short-sleeved shirt, black shorts, and sneakers.

His head had sustained a severe wound, and he had been dead for approximately six hours. Nearby, police found a makeshift bamboo and wooden ladder leaning between the second and third floors. Mr. Panya, 43, a friend of the deceased, was present at the scene, visibly shocked and with bloodstains on his pants. He was the first to report the discovery of the body.

During questioning, Mr. Panya admitted that he and the deceased had sneaked into the abandoned building earlier that day around noon. They had planned to steal steel and electrical wires to sell to a scrap dealer.

While Mr. Panya stayed on the first floor, the deceased used the makeshift ladder to climb to the second floor. Later in the evening, Mr. Panya heard a loud noise. He then found his friend lying in a pool of blood. By the time authorities arrived, the man had already passed away.

Authorities sent the body for an autopsy at the Institute of Forensic Medicine, Police General Hospital in Bangkok, to confirm the exact cause of death.

A background check on Mr. Panya revealed that he had recently been released from Pattaya Prison on March 21st after serving time for drug-related offenses. He also had a prior record for theft in 2024.
