Pattaya, Thailand – In the wake of a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck central Myanmar on March 28, 2025, causing widespread concern across Southeast Asia, Pattaya authorities have reassured residents and tourists that the city remains safe and unaffected.
The quake, centered near Mandalay, approximately 600 miles from Bangkok, led to significant damage in Myanmar and even triggered the collapse of a skyscraper under construction in Thailand’s capital. However, Pattaya, a popular coastal destination, experienced no notable impact from the tremors.
On March 30, 2025, the Mayor of Pattaya, Poramese Ngampichet, confirmed that the city’s infrastructure, beaches, and key tourist areas sustained no damage. Local authorities, including Pattaya’s Fire Station and municipal officers, conducted thorough inspections of coastal zones and public spaces following the earthquake.
With the Songkran Festival—the traditional Thai New Year celebrated with water fights and cultural festivities—just weeks away, officials emphasized that all planned events will proceed as scheduled from April 13-19, with Pattaya’s main day, Wan Lai, falling on the 19th. The festival, a major draw for international and domestic tourists, is expected to bring millions of people to Thailand, and Pattaya’s preparations remain on track. “The earthquake was a concern, but it hasn’t changed our plans. Songkran 2025 will be a celebration of resilience and joy,” a local event organizer added.
Thailand’s Tourism Authority echoed this sentiment, assuring travelers that Pattaya and other key destinations are prepared to host visitors safely.
