Baby Zebra at Khao Kheow Open Zoo Named Lai Thai, Celebrate School Break with Adorable New Star

Chonburi, Thailand – Mr. Narongwit Chodchoi, Director of Khao Kheow Open Zoo, announced today, March 27th, 2025, that the zoo’s newest member, a female baby zebra born late last year, has officially been named “Lai Thai” following a public voting campaign.

The young zebra, introduced to visitors on November 6, 2024, has quickly become a beloved attraction. To mark the occasion, the zoo launched a special activity inviting tourists to vote for the baby zebra’s name, offering two options: “Ma Hor” or “Lai Thai.” Voting took place via the zoo’s Facebook page, with participants entering a draw to win prizes, including three 16-inch “Moo Deng” plush toys and ten “All-in-One” travel passes.

The campaign saw enthusiastic participation from children, youths, and tourists nationwide, garnering over 2,449 votes. “Lai Thai” emerged as the clear favorite, securing the most votes. Mr. Narongwit expressed delight at the overwhelming response and invited parents to bring their children to meet the adorable “Lai Thai” at the zoo’s African animal exhibit during the school break.
Mr. Narongwit also noted that the naming event was designed to engage visitors and enhance their experience. The zoo randomly selected winners from those who voted for “Lai Thai,” as well as participants who suggested other names. The list of lucky winners is available on the “Khao Kheow Open Zoo” Facebook fan page or by calling 0-3831-8444, extension 213. Prize recipients can claim their rewards at the zoo starting today.

Khao Kheow Open Zoo continues to offer unique opportunities for families to connect with wildlife, making “Lai Thai” the perfect highlight for a fun-filled holiday outing.
