Thailand Signs MOU with Formula One, Aiming to Host Race in 2028

Thailand, March 25th, 2025 — Dr. Gongsak Yodmani, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), announced that Thailand has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Formula 1, setting the goal to host a Grand Prix in 2028. The initial plan is to hold the race in Chatuchak, Bangkok, pending final preparations.

Dr. Gongsak stated that a committee led by Tourism and Sports Minister Sorawong Thienthong is also considering other potential locations, including Chonburi.

Formula 1 officials reportedly praised the potential of the Thai race, suggesting it could become one of the most visually striking on the global circuit.

Community engagement and environmental impact are key concerns. SAT aims to minimize pollution and noise while ensuring local residents benefit from the event. Plans include compensations for affected areas and clear communication about road and park closures.

Details of the MOU remain confidential, but Dr. Gongsak confirmed that ongoing discussions will cover technical studies, circuit design, and timelines leading up to the 2028 race.
