Thai Transport Department Boosts Safety and Capacity for Songkran Travel

Thailand, March 26th, 2025 — Jirut Wisanchit, Director-General of the Department of Land Transport (DLT), announced preparations for increased passenger traffic during this year’s Songkran festival.

The DLT has coordinated with the Transport Company Limited (BorKorSor) to ensure enough buses are available, as demand typically rises 2–3 times during festivals.

The DLT has arranged for additional buses at major terminals and connecting routes to prevent passenger overflow. Traffic flow will be monitored in coordination with the Department of Highways to ease congestion.

Strict safety measures will be enforced, including zero tolerance for alcohol and drugs among drivers, with support from the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB).

Drivers’ working hours will be regulated, and speed limits will be monitored through cameras and GPS. All non-scheduled buses (Type 30) must pass safety inspections before operating during the festival.
