Thai PM Paetongtarn Survives No-Confidence Vote with 319 Votes of Support

Thailand, at 10:00 AM on March 26th, 2025 — the Thai House of Representatives held a vote on a no-confidence motion against Thai PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra. Out of 487 members who voted, 319 supported the prime minister, 162 voted against her, and 7 abstained.

The motion was led by opposition leader Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut and followed two days of intense debate involving both opposition and coalition MPs, lasting a total of 32 hours and 32 minutes.

The two-day debate (March 24th–25th) focused on several key issues, including the government’s handling of the economy, alleged corruption, and national security.

Opposition MPs criticized the government’s economic policies, claiming they had led to increased public debt and slowed growth. They also raised concerns about transparency in major infrastructure projects and accused the administration of failing to address corruption effectively.

Government ministers defended their record, highlighting recent economic recovery efforts and asserting that infrastructure projects followed proper procedures. They also pointed to improvements in social welfare and national security under Paetongtarn’s leadership.

The vote, conducted by electronic ballot, required at least 247 votes to pass under Section 151 of the Constitution. House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha announced the results at 10:12 AM, confirming that the motion failed to reach the required majority.

As a result, PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra remains in office with the confidence of the House.
