Pattaya, Thailand – March 25, 2025

At 11:36 PM on March 25, 2025, the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Unit in Pattaya received a distress call from local residents reporting an American tourist lying in the middle of Pattaya Second Road/Thrappraya Road in Jomtien not far from Rompho Market. Rescue personnel immediately rushed to the scene to investigate.

Upon arrival, they found an intoxicated foreign tourist sprawled across the road. Good Samaritans and fellow tourists had already managed to move him to the roadside after quite an effort before the rescue team arrived. The man, who identified himself only as an American, angrily shouted, “Why is everyone here? Don’t bother me, I want to sleep!” He then threw himself down again, this time blocking the entrance to a nearby hotel/condo, ignoring the stares of passersby. He even complained about the noise from passing vehicles, claiming it disturbed him. His behavior left both rescue workers and bystanders deeply concerned for his safety.

For over half an hour, rescue personnel attempted to reason with the man, urging him to move to a safer location. However, he stubbornly insisted on staying put, repeating his desire to sleep right there and claiming it was his right to sleep where he wished. Frustrated, the rescue team decided to call the police and informed the tourist of their plan.

At that moment, he suddenly sobered up, stood up, and casually walked away. Worried for his well-being, Good Samaritans and rescue workers followed him from a distance until he disappeared from sight, presumably returning safely to his accommodation. With that, the rescue team called off the operation.

Mr. O, a 36-year-old hotel security guard, provided additional details. He had noticed the foreign tourist earlier, staggering and clinging to the hotel’s gate. “I didn’t think much of it—just assumed he was drunk—and continued my duties as usual,” he said. It wasn’t until a crowd gathered on the roadside that he went to check the situation, and soon after, someone alerted the authorities for assistance.
The incident, marked by the tourist’s comical yet concerning behavior, left rescue workers scratching their heads and sparked lots of chatter online.
