Thailand, March 21st, 2025 — Sasikarn Wattanachan, Deputy Government Spokesperson, announced that the Thai government has approved amendments to the Alcohol Control Act, aiming to boost the economy and tourism while supporting local producers.
On March 19th, the House of Representatives passed revisions to Section 32 of the Alcohol Control Act. The changes separate alcohol advertising regulations into a dedicated section for clearer enforcement.
Under the new law, individuals not advertising for commercial purposes may promote alcohol, but businesses remain restricted from encouraging consumption or making product claims. However, businesses can now provide more product details and branding information, as long as they avoid misleading designs resembling alcohol brands.
The amendments also aim to support small producers and promote Thai craft spirits as part of the government’s soft power strategy. The law will take effect once published in the Royal Gazette.
Separately, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has revised national park regulations to allow alcohol consumption in designated “club” areas for authorized groups, such as park staff and study tour groups, with approval from park chiefs.
General visitors remain prohibited from drinking alcohol in parks. The revised rules are expected to take effect within two months after Cabinet approval.
Sasikarn emphasized that the new measures balance economic growth with social protection, ensuring a clear legal framework while safeguarding youth and the public from alcohol-related harm.
