Singapore, March 20th, 2025 — CNA reported that a 37-year-old Thai man was sentenced to one week in jail and fined 2,000 Singapore dollars (about 50,000 baht) for public indecency and causing public nuisance on a Singapore MRT train. The ruling was issued by a Singapore court on March 18th, 2025.
The incident occurred on January 25th, when the man (whose name was withheld by the police), an inspection engineer, urinated in the middle of an MRT train between Ang Mo Kio and Khatib stations while heavily intoxicated, according to the CNA.
He had consumed a bottle of red wine after meeting friends in Somerset earlier that day. A passenger captured the act on camera and reported it to patrolling officers.
Prosecutors stated that passengers were shocked and disgusted, with some stepping into the urine as it spread across the train floor. The judge noted that the man’s genitals were clearly visible during the incident, which took place during a busy period.
During the hearing, the man, who was unrepresented by a lawyer, reportedly pleaded guilty to all charges and repeatedly expressed remorse in a ‘wai’ gesture.
