Sepak Takraw Dispute Turns Violent in Pattaya, Leaving Two Injured

Pattaya —

A dispute over a sepak takraw ball hitting a neighbor’s roof escalated into a violent brawl in Pattaya, leaving two men injured with knife wounds.

At 11:06 PM on March 19th, the Sawang Boriboon Rescue Center received a report of a violent altercation at a residence in Soi Nong Krabok 5. Upon receiving the report, rescue volunteers and police officers immediately went to the scene.

At the scene, the first injured individual was identified as Mr. Sathaporn, 40, who had sustained a knife wound to his left hand, a cut on his neck, and swelling on his head from being struck with a hard object. The second victim, Mr. Noraphat, 35, had a wound on his right arm from a sharp object.

Rescue workers provided first aid before transporting both individuals to the hospital. Meanwhile, police found a knife sheath at the scene and broken glass fragments behind the house.

Mr. Sathaporn, the homeowner, stated that the suspect, who rented the house across the street, frequently played sepak takraw, and their ball often landed on his roof. Although he had ignored it multiple times, on this occasion, the neighbors threw a bottle onto his roof. He confronted them, which escalated into a heated argument. The situation turned violent when the neighbors allegedly attacked him with a knife and a metal baton, leaving him injured.

However, the suspect, whose identity was not revealed, claimed they were also assaulted and insisted the situation was a misunderstanding. They stated that the dispute arose because the sepak takraw ball accidentally hit the neighbor’s roof. Although they tried to apologize, they alleged that the neighbor refused to listen and physically attacked them first, prompting their family members to step in, resulting in injuries on both sides.

Initially, police advised both parties to receive medical treatment before reporting to the Nongprue Police Station for questioning. In other recent Sepak Tekraw news, a local team is calling for better lighting at a local court.

Takraw, also known as sepak takraw, is a dynamic and acrobatic sport originating from Southeast Asia, blending elements of volleyball, soccer, and martial arts. Played with a rattan ball (or a synthetic equivalent), the objective is to keep the ball in the air and send it over a net to the opposing team’s side without using hands or arms—players rely on their feet, knees, chest, and head. Typically, it’s a three-a-side game where teams of three players showcase agility, coordination, and spectacular mid-air kicks, often resembling a choreographed dance. Popular in countries like Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia, takraw has variations like “sepak raga” (a circle game) and “net takraw” (competitive court play), with international tournaments gaining traction globally.
