Chonburi, March 20th, 2025 — The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) seized 121,490 disposable e-cigarettes worth 21,868,200 baht at Laem Chabang Port, Chonburi.
The operation followed an investigation into a smuggling network trafficking illegal e-cigarettes into Thailand. The products were hidden among other goods in a shipping container and were imported without proper customs clearance.
The seized goods were imported from abroad and disguised among other items to bypass customs checks. The shipment violated the 2016 Ministry of Commerce ban on the transit of e-cigarettes and the 2014 prohibition on importing baraku and e-cigarettes into Thailand.
The Customs Department will value the confiscated products before legal action is taken. The DSI plans to expand the investigation to identify suppliers and supporters involved in the smuggling network.
E-cigarettes are classified as prohibited items under the 2017 Customs Act and Ministry of Commerce regulations. Officials aim to tighten enforcement and prevent the spread of illegal e-cigarettes in Thailand.
This is the third major seizure of illegal vapes at the pier in the past few weeks as we have reported here and also here.
This comes amid a major national crackdown on vaping ordered by the Thai Prime Minister, as The Pattaya News reported here.
