Pattaya —
A man dressed like a monk, riding a decorated motorcycle with a large snake around his neck, has turned himself in to Banglamung police after his viral stunt on Pattaya’s Sukhumvit Road sparked public concern.
On March 18th, Mr. Prasert, the man saw in the video, reported to the police along with his motorcycle after a video of his daring motorbike ride went viral on Thai social media. He stated that he is not a Buddhist monk, as some had assumed.
Mr. Prasert explained that he is only a domestic tourist who traveled by motorcycle from Rayong to Chonburi. The decorations on his motorcycle, including flowers, amulets, and red fabric, were collected from spirit shrines and cemeteries he found along the way, as he believes in sacred objects and chose to use them as ornaments.
For his attire, which resembled a monk’s robe, Mr. Prasert clarified that the fabric is commonly wrapped around sacred trees as an offering. He wore it simply because it was comfortable and dried quickly. As for the snake around his neck, he stated that it was a ball python, a non-prohibited species imported from abroad, which he claimed is legally permitted as a pet.
Banglamung police issued a warning and instructed Mr. Prasert to remove the decorations from his motorcycle and wear normal attire to prevent further misunderstandings or public concern. He was then fined under the Traffic Act.
