Thai PM Reports 20 Percent Drop in Call Center Scams After Crackdown

Thailand, March 17th, 2025 — Thai PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra announced a 20% drop in call center scam cases and a 200 million baht reduction in damages over the past month, following intensified crackdowns.

Paetongtarn chaired a meeting to assess the progress in combating call center scams. She reported that from January 1st to January 31st, 2025, 31,159 cases of online crime were reported. 

After implementing measures such as cutting power and internet signals, cases dropped to 25,487 — a 20% decrease. Data from the Anti-Online Crime Center (AOC 1441) confirmed that financial losses fell by around 200 million baht within one month.

Paetongtarn emphasized that the government will tighten border controls and use advanced technology to improve detection and response times. She stated that a key government goal is to make citizens feel safer in their daily lives. 

Paetongtarn also thanked law enforcement for their dedication and assured that the government remains committed to tackling this issue.
