Residents and Tourists Demand Action as Homeless Encampment Takes Over Part of Wong Amat Beach

Pattaya —

Frustrated residents and tourists are urging Pattaya authorities to take action as a group of homeless individuals turned part of Wong Amat Beach into a campsite, raising concerns over the city’s tourism friendly image.

Residents and tourists, both Thai and foreign, have had enough of a group of homeless individuals—both men and women—who have taken over part of Wong Amat Beach in Pattaya as a campsite. They cook, wash their clothes in the sea, and hang laundry along the walls of nearby residences. Some have even been allegedly caught engaging in intimate activities in hidden spots near the home of a prominent nearby resident.

Despite repeated efforts by locals to drive them away, the situation has persisted for months. Residents are left to handle the issue themselves, but their warnings are ignored, and the group continues their disruptive behavior.

Upon receiving the complaints, The Pattaya News reporters visited Wong Amat Beach. Walking along the rocky shoreline, they reached the boundary of a residence, where they found a homeless woman sleeping in a hammock tied to the wall. Makeshift shelters, scattered clothes, cooking utensils, and piles of trash littered the area.

When questioned, the woman claimed her husband, a security guard at a nearby restaurant, had brought her there, and she was waiting for him. However, when reporters spoke to the security guard in question, he denied the claim, stating that he had only given her food out of pity and did not know her personally.

Both Thai and foreign tourists voiced their concerns, calling for Pattaya authorities to step in and restore order. They stated that this location is a well-known spot for backpackers and online influencers worldwide. They fear that the homeless could negatively impact Pattaya’s reputation.
