The Pattaya Nightlife Business Association (PNBA) voiced strong concerns during its monthly meeting held at Lisa Guesthouse in Jomtien, chaired by PNBA President Ms. Lisa Hamilton. The meeting, attended by Vice President Mr. Wasan Sanguanthai, committee members, and association members, focused on the Excise Department’s plan to increase taxes on entertainment and beverage venues, which could have a ripple effect on the tourism and service sectors.
The discussion centered on the proposed tax hike for nightlife establishments—including nightclubs, discotheques, pubs, bars, and cocktail lounges—from the current 7% to 11% of service revenue. The association fears this increase will place a significant financial burden on operators, raising operational costs and threatening the economic stability of Pattaya’s tourism-driven nightlife industry. In response, the PNBA is preparing to submit a formal petition to relevant government agencies, urging a reconsideration of the excise tax adjustment.
In addition to addressing the tax issue, the meeting explored strategies to generate revenue for the association to support its community initiatives. Members unanimously agreed to organize a charity bowling tournament to foster unity among the group while raising funds. Proceeds from the event, after expenses, will be donated to support orphans in Bang Lamung District. Tentatively scheduled for May 21, 2025, the event has been named the “Night Bowling Charity Tournament.”
