Pattaya —
Tourist Police arrested nine Chinese nationals and 16 Myanmar workers in Pattaya for illegally working at villa construction sites without proper work permits.
The Tourist Police Bureau has been closely monitoring foreign nationals, particularly Chinese investors involved in the villa rental business, particularly in Pattaya. These investors reportedly import construction materials, interior furnishings, and furniture from China while employing Chinese laborers who enter Thailand on visa-free tourist permits to work in design, construction, and project supervision.
On March 11th, officers from the Investigation Division and Division 2 of the Tourist Police Bureau conducted inspections at four villa construction sites in Pattaya following reports of approximately 40 Chinese and Myanmar nationals working illegally in the area.
Upon arrival, officers found several foreign men overseeing Myanmar laborers constructing pool villas. They were Chinese and Myanmar nationals, but when asked to present their passports and work permits, they failed to do so.
As a result, they were detained, formally charged, and informed of their legal rights. They face charges under the Immigration Act for working without proper authorization.
The police encourage the public to report any suspicious behaviors among foreign nationals via www.thaipoliceonline.com, the Tourist Police application, or the Tourist Police hotline at 1155, available 24/7.
