Chonburi to Develop and Test AI Inquiry Officers for Some Police Interactions

CHONBURI, Thailand – March 11th, 2025 – Provincial Police Region 2 has embarked on an innovative leap in law enforcement by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) and Amata Facility Services. Announced on March 10th, the collaboration aims to develop cutting-edge technologies, including AI-powered inquiry officers, to enhance police operations across eastern and northeastern Thailand.

This initiative aligns with Thailand’s National AI Strategy (2022–2027), which promotes the integration of technology into public services. While details on implementation and features remain limited, the program marks a big step toward modernizing policing in the region, with more information anticipated as the partnership unfolds.

The deployment of AI inquiry officers could transform policing in Region 2 by automating routine tasks such as logging complaints, analyzing initial statements, and routing cases to appropriate units—potentially slashing response times and minimizing errors.

Experts suggest this could allow officers to prioritize fieldwork and complex cases, addressing resource constraints in both rural and urban areas. You could in theory see AI powered kiosks used to help pay traffic tickets, ask basic law enforcement questions, or check on the status of a non urgent police report.

Region 2 spans Thailand’s eastern provinces, including Chonburi (home to Pattaya), Rayong, and Chanthaburi, as well as others.
