Chonburi Police Arrest Two Suspects for Stealing Rental Cars

Chonburi —

Chonburi police arrested two Thai suspects for allegedly stealing rental cars and selling them on the black market.

On March 11th, Chonburi police arrested Mr. Thanakrit, 48, under an arrest warrant issued by the Nonthaburi Provincial Court on charges of “jointly embezzling property.” Another suspect, Ms. Kanyakorn, 29, was also arrested under a separate warrant from the same court on the same charge.

Authorities seized a gray Toyota Yaris, along with its key and two license plates, as evidence. The arrests took place at the Pattaya Highway Police Service Unit.

The arrest stemmed from an incident on March 9th, 2025, when officers were conducting routine patrols. At Kilometer 153-154 on Highway 3 in Na Jomtien, Sattahip, they noticed a black Toyota making a sudden lane change before entering a bridge. Officers signaled the driver to pull over for inspection and a warning.

The driver, identified as Mr. Thanakrit, was accompanied by Ms. Kanyakorn in the passenger seat. Police revealed that the vehicle lacked a tax sticker and a copy of its registration document. Further examination of its license plate indicated it was registered as a white Mitsubishi, a different vehicle altogether.

Officers brought both individuals and the car to the Pattaya Highway Police Service Unit for further investigation. Upon checking arrest warrants, they confirmed that Mr. Thanakrit was wanted by the Nonthaburi Provincial Court.

Authorities proceeded with their arrests, charging both individuals with “jointly embezzling property” and transferring them to Rattanathibet Police Station for legal proceedings.

A background check revealed that the two suspects had been involved in renting vehicles, disabling their GPS trackers to evade tracking, and then selling them. The suspects then reportedly sold the stolen cars in the black market as second-hand vehicles, which were eventually trafficked to Myanmar and Cambodia.

Meanwhile, the stolen car was eventually returned to the true owner.
