Pattaya —

A 57-year-old Hungarian man was arrested while sunbathing at a Pattaya hotel after allegedly smashing a businessman’s car window in Nonthaburi and stealing 1.5 million baht.

On March 8th, police arrested Mr. Altal, a 57-year-old Hungarian national, who was wanted for breaking into a businessman’s car at a shopping mall parking lot in Nonthaburi. He was captured while sunbathing by a hotel pool in Pattaya, Chonburi, after illegally re-entering Thailand through a natural border crossing.

The arrest was led by Nonthaburi Provincial Police. Officers seized evidence including a Honda Wave motorcycle, 187,850 baht in cash, a mobile phone, and a remote signal jammer before taking the suspect in for questioning.

The case began on March 3rd at 12:30 PM, when a 38-year-old Thai businessman (name withheld) parked his Toyota car on the second floor of a shopping mall in the Ngamwongwan area in Nonthaburi. After withdrawing 1.5 million baht from a bank to deposit at another, he found the bank crowded and decided to leave the money in a brown envelope inside his car while running errands in the mall.

Upon returning, he discovered that his car’s right rear window had been shattered and the money stolen. He immediately reported the incident at the Nonthaburi Police Station.

Investigators reviewed CCTV footage and identified Mr. Altal as the suspect. He was seen arriving at the mall on a motorcycle, breaking the car window, stealing the cash, and fleeing to a house in Sai Mai, Bangkok, where his Thai wife resides. He later changed the motorcycle’s license plate before escaping to Pattaya, Chonburi.

Authorities tracked him down and arrested him at a hotel while he was sunbathing. He was taken into custody along with the recovered evidence and handed over to Nonthaburi Police for legal proceedings.

He did not immediately release a statement or plea.
