Mongolian Man Allegedly Caught Stealing Brand Name Products in Pattaya Mall Using Luggage With Hidden Compartment

Pattaya –

A Mongolian man was in custody after he allegedly stole brand name products from a shopping mall in Pattaya.

A security guard and a representative of a shopping mall near Pattaya Beach filed a report to the Pattaya City Police. MR. BYAMBA, 52, Mongolian national, was found to be in police custody and also found with 12 brand name shirts and two brand name bags valued in total at 26,000 Baht.

The unidentified security guard told the police that the suspect was looking inside brand name shops for a long time while rolling around luggage. He saw something suspicious because items on shelves that the guard had noticed earlier suddenly disappeared and he decided to tail the suspect.

The guard asked to search the suspect’s person but nothing was initially found. However, the guard remained suspicious as he was sure that the suspect stole from shops in the mall. The guard then asked to inspect luggage that the man was carrying but initially also found nothing unusual until the clever guard discovered that the luggage was modified with a secret compartment not immediately visible or accessible unless one was very observant. Inside the compartment were the stolen products. The suspect immediately tried to flee on foot once the secret compartment was found but failed due to quick action from the security guard who then detained the suspect until police arrived.

The suspect now faces legal charges around shoplifting, which is treated as a major crime in Thailand unlike some Western countries, as we reported in full here.

Last year, an elderly Australian expat was caught stealing from a pharmacy in Pattaya in another shoplifting case which led to major discussion online.

In 2023, an Israeli man caught shoplifting in Pattaya from a convenience store tried to blame marijuana and stress for the incident, but police didn’t bite.
