A 68-year-old Italian man was arrested in Pattaya after allegedly masturbating near a female TV reporter at Bali Hai, claiming he was merely relieving himself due to a medical condition.
On March 8th, an unidentified TV news field reporter filed a complaint with Pattaya police. She reported that while visiting Pattaya with friends and taking photos near the rocky area of Bali Hai Pier, a foreign man followed them and allegedly hid among the rocks.
He then allegedly proceeded to masturbate, causing the reporter to quickly record a video as evidence before handing it over to the police.
Following the incident, police reviewed CCTV footage and tracked down the suspect. By the evening of the same day, the suspect, later identified as a 68-year-old Italian man, was arrested and taken to Pattaya Police Station, where he was fined 3,000 baht.
It was reported that while local reporters were filming footage of the arrest, the suspect reacted angrily by showing his middle finger. He also denied the allegations, claiming he did not masturbate but was merely relieving himself due to a medical condition that prevents him from holding in his urine. TPN Media notes that public toilet trucks and pay toilets are less than a one minute walk from where the incident took place.
The suspect also insisted he had no intention of committing an indecent act. The police have detained him for further legal proceedings and he even posed for his official photo by flipping over the photographer, as pictured.
Thai media has called for the strongest possible legal action and possible deportation but police said they would examine both sides of the situation.
