Chonburi —
A pregnant woman and her unborn child were tragically killed when a six-wheel truck driver rammed into their motorcycle in Chonburi, leaving the father and two young daughters critically injured.
At 4:00 PM on March 3rd, Huai Yai police received a report of a serious accident on the road opposite the Khao Mai Kaew Police Post along Highway 331 (Chachoengsao-Sattahip), inbound to Sattahip. Officers, including rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation, immediately rushed to the scene.
Upon arrival, officials found a large crowd gathered around the crash site. A severely damaged red Honda Wave motorcycle was found severely damaged, with debris scattered across the road. About 200 meters away, a white six-wheel Hino truck with a cargo box was parked with minor damage to its side.
Three injured victims were found at the scene. The first, identified as 31-year-old Mr. Warathip suffered a severe laceration on the left side of his head. The second, a four-year-old girl, was semi-conscious with a fractured right arm and multiple abrasions. The third victim, a two-year-old girl, also had multiple abrasions. Rescue workers provided first aid before urgently transporting them to Pattamakorn Hospital.
Tragically, the accident also claimed the life of a pregnant woman, identified as 30-year-old Ms. Mone Khampaseuth from Laos. She was reportedly run over and suffered grievous injuries, which also resulted in the death of her unborn child.
The truck driver, 62-year-old Mr. Sontana, waited at the scene. He reportedly admitted to the police that he was returning to his factory after a delivery in Chonburi when he suddenly blacked out. He unintentionally veered into the motorcycle carrying the family of four, causing them to lose control and crash, leading to the devastating incident.
According to nearby residents, the family had been riding the motorcycle along the road when the six-wheel truck suddenly swerved into them, knocking them down. Witnesses also confirmed that the truck ran over the pregnant woman.
Authorities have taken the truck driver into custody for further questioning and will proceed with legal action according to the Thai law.
