TAT Targets 8 Million Chinese Tourists in 2025 with Soft Power Strategy

Thailand, February 26th, 2025 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is set to boost tourism in 2025 by leveraging Thailand’s “Soft Power” and promoting “must-visit cities” to attract global travelers, particularly from China.

TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool announced that the strategy aims to expand tourism markets, increase travel frequency, and drive visits to various provinces.

A key initiative is a cultural tourism campaign highlighting the deep-rooted ties between Thailand and China. The campaign showcases local traditions, cuisine, arts, and heritage sites across 10 secondary provinces: Samut Songkhram, Ratchaburi, Suphan Buri, Chiang Rai, Udon Thani, Bueng Kan, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Buriram, Surin, and Chanthaburi.

Thai influencers fluent in Chinese will lead the initiative under the theme “Thai Friends Take Chinese Friends on a Tour,” according to Thapanee.

The campaign will be heavily promoted through Chinese digital platforms such as Xiaohongshu, Weibo, Douyin (TikTok China), and Bilibili, targeting travelers aged 18-45.

TAT aims to attract 8 million Chinese tourists in 2025, generating at least 550 billion baht in revenue, with an estimated online reach of over 100 million impressions.

This is part of an ongoing campaign to reassure and attract Chinese visitors who have been scared off by human trafficking taking place in Myanmar by the Thai border in which thousands of Chinese have reportedly been drawn into, even while Thailand, China, and Myanmar work on dismantling the scam centers.
