Pattaya —
Witnesses claimed a man set his own motorcycle on fire near the Pattaya Railway Station before calmly walking away.
At 8:00 PM on February 20th, officers from the Banglamung Police Station received a report about a motorcycle on fire near Pattaya Railway Station in Pattaya. Upon receiving the report, authorities coordinated with Pattaya’s fire department, which dispatched a fire truck to the scene.
Upon arrival, they found a Honda Wave 125 motorcycle, which had no license plate, engulfed in flames. Firefighters took approximately 15 minutes to extinguish the fire, but by then, the motorcycle had been completely destroyed, leaving only its frame. The owner, 36-year-old Mr. Natthaphon, was present at the scene, waiting to provide a statement to the police.
A witness, 26-year-old Mr. Noppakorn, stated that he had stopped nearby to take a phone call when he noticed the motorcycle’s owner standing in the dark beside the vehicle. Moments later, the motorcycle suddenly caught fire.
Instead of reacting with concern, the owner calmly walked across the street and sat down. Mr. Noppakorn approached and asked what had happened, to which the man simply responded that he was stressed before walking away. Sensing something was off, Mr. Noppakorn followed him on his own motorcycle and asked again, but the man only said he would check on it later. Mr. Noppakorn then decided to alert the fire department.
Mr. Natthaphon, the motorcycle’s owner, later claimed that he had parked on the roadside to rest when the vehicle suddenly caught fire. He denied setting it on fire.
Banglamung police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. However, they remain skeptical of Mr. Natthaphon’s claims, as records indicate that he has a history of substance abuse and mental health issues, Banglamung police said. Authorities plan to review CCTV footage from the area.
