Thai Meteorological Department Warns of Thunderstorms, Falling Temperatures Nationwide

Thailand, February 19th, 2025 – The Thai Meteorological Department has forecast unsettling weather across the country from February 20th to 25th.

From February 20th to 22nd, southerly and southeasterly winds will bring humidity from the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, leading to scattered thunderstorms in northern Thailand. Meanwhile, moderate monsoon winds over the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea will bring isolated storms to the south, with waves reaching 1-2 meters in the lower Gulf.

From February 23rd to the 25th, a cold air mass from China will spread over northeastern Thailand, combining with westerly winds from Myanmar. This will trigger thunderstorms, strong winds, and hail in some areas, followed by a temperature drop of 2-4°C in the northeast and 1-2°C in central and eastern regions, including Bangkok.

Southern Thailand will see increased rainfall, with heavy downpours in some areas. Waves in the lower Gulf will rise to 2-3 meters, exceeding 3 meters during storms. The Andaman Sea and upper Gulf will also see rough seas.

Authorities urge residents to take precautions against sudden weather changes, strong winds, and lightning. Farmers should protect their crops, and people in storm-prone areas should avoid open spaces, large trees, and unstable structures.

Fishermen are advised to navigate cautiously, with small boats in the lower Gulf urged to stay ashore during the peak weather period.
