Pattaya —

An Indian tourist was allegedly harassed and extorted by a group of transgender individuals near Pattaya Beach after refusing to buy their escort services.

The incident took place around 3:40 AM on February 18th near South Pattaya Beach, opposite the Royal Garden Plaza and just before Walking Street.

According to local reporters, a transgender individual dressed in black was seen grabbing the collar of an Indian tourist. The tourist was with three to four friends, some of whom stood watching while others attempted to help their peer, but they were reportedly threatened by other transgender individuals not to interfere.

The victim was then dragged to a group consisting of both Thai women and transgender individuals. The group allegedly demanded money, and one of the victim’s Indian companions eventually handed them some cash. Once satisfied, the group released the tourist and allowed him to return to his friends.

A local motorcycle taxi driver, who declined to be named for his safety, revealed that such incidents supposedly occur regularly. They reported that certain transgender individuals often approach foreign tourists and offer sexual services.

If a tourist touches them and realizes they are transgender, they may refuse further interaction. In response, the transgender individuals allegedly resort to intimidation, sometimes even physical assault, or demand money from the tourist. Some tourists, fearing legal trouble, choose to pay to avoid further issues.

Such behavior severely damages Pattaya’s reputation as a world-class tourist destination. Locals are urging the authorities to take action against what they call the mini “beach mafias.”

Pattaya police are reportedly aware of the incident and looking into it.
