Pattaya Scrap Yard Destroyed by Fire

Pattaya —

A fire broke out at a scrap yard in Pattaya, causing nearly 300,000 baht in damage.

At 2:00 PM on February 13th, the Nongprue Municipality’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department received a report of a fire at a scrap yard in Soi Thung Klom Tan Man 17. After receiving the report, they coordinated with the Nongprue Police Station and the Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation before dispatching five fire trucks to the scene.

At the scene, they found a scrap yard covering an area of over 5-6 rai. At the warehouse storing old cardboard boxes, flames and smoke were billowing out. The firefighters quickly used water to contain the fire, and it took nearly half an hour to bring it under control. After the fire was extinguished, it was found that the warehouse area was almost completely destroyed.

Mr. Pongsakorn, 30, revealed that before the incident, his employees had used a forklift to lift a pile of cardboard and tried to push the cardboard up. However, the forklift’s wheels spun on the cardboard, which created sparks that quickly ignited. They immediately notified the fire department for help. The initial estimate of the damage is around 200,000-300,000 baht, Mr. Pongsakorn said.

The incident also caused concerns about air pollution, a major issue in Thailand and Chonburi this time of year. Just a few days prior another large wildfire contributed to the problem as well in Banglamung.

In January, another massive wildfire near Pattaya also caused concerns and was visible for many kilometers, contributing to air pollution also.
