Thailand, February 13th, 2025 – A French tourist’s first trip to Thailand took an unexpected turn after a language mix-up allegedly sent him to Doi Tao, Chiang Mai, instead of Koh Tao, Surat Thani.
The tourist, publicly identified only as Jack, was allegedly left stranded midway in Lamphun by a Thai driver after the confusion. His ordeal worsened when he lost his wallet and passport, adding to his distress and fear of scams.

Pol. Sergt. Teerapat Modjod from Song Phi Nong Police Station, Suphan Buri, stepped in to assist Jack. After escorting him to the Mueang Suphan Buri Police Station, they reunited Jack with his lost belongings, thanks to a kind citizen who found them.

Police also provided Jack with an interpreter and arranged accommodation for the night. Officers will assist him in continuing his journey to Koh Tao the next day. The distance between Doi Tao and Koh Tao is approximately 1,200 kilometers.
The incident has drawn praise from netizens for the Thai police’s kindness and support but also some incredulity from some sectors as to how a tourist could get that far off track.
