Pattaya —

Tourists in Pattaya have resorted to urinating and even allegedly defecating near the deputy police chief’s car after the city’s police station restrooms were shut down due to a water outage.

On February 10th, local reporters reported that tourists, both Thai and foreign, regularly gather in front of the Pattaya Police Station to enjoy drinks and the seaside atmosphere. The area, located across from the station and near a major shopping mall, has become a common spot for visitors.

However, reporters noted that many tourists rely on the police station’s restroom. Recently, police officers put up a notice at the entrance stating that the water supply had been cut off, leaving the restrooms out of service for the past three to four days.

This caused some visitors to use nearby private restrooms for a fee of 5 to 10 baht, but many ignored the sign and entered the station, only to relieve themselves behind the building when no one was watching. Some tourists even allegedly urinated near the entrance of the police residential flats on a nearby side street.

In a shocking incident, one individual was reported to have defecated near the car of the deputy superintendent of Pattaya Police Station.

The situation has caused strong odors to spread throughout the area. Many Thai visitors complained that as soon as they stepped out of their cars in front of the station, they were met with the overpowering stench of urine carried by the wind. Residents are now urging Pattaya police to take immediate action to resolve the issue.

TPN media notes that public restrooms are available at a nearby shopping mall but hours are limited. There have been proposals for many years to operate public, free restrooms on Pattaya Beach, including even allegedly underground restrooms, but they have not moved forward.
