Police Bust Cable Theft Gang on Motorway 7 Near Pattaya

Police arrested four suspects caught stealing high-voltage power cables along Motorway Route 7 near Pattaya.

At 6:36 AM on February 7th, Pol. Col. Wanchana Tipasan, Superintendent of Highway Police Division 8, announced the arrest of four suspects involved in the theft of high-voltage power lines along Motorway Route 7.

The suspects were arrested with stolen power cables and tools used in the crime, including wire cutters, hammers, an axe, and two motorcycles used for their escape.

The arrests followed a series of power line thefts, which caused damages worth millions of baht. Authorities had been monitoring the area and finally spotted the suspects trying to steal the power lines. However, officers only managed to detain one suspect, while the others fled into a nearby cassava plantation.

Shortly after, officers surrounded the plantation and were eventually able to arrest the remaining three suspects. During questioning, the suspects reportedly admitted to breaking open concrete manholes to steal high-voltage cables, which they planned to sell for 200 baht per kilogram. They confessed that they used the money for personal expenses, partying, and purchasing illegal drugs.

Initially, the suspects were charged with nighttime theft and using vehicles to facilitate the escape. They were handed over to Banglamung Police Station for legal proceedings.
