On January 23rd, 2025, Deputy Transport Minister Manaporn Charoensri reported a surge in air travel during the Chinese New Year festival, with an estimated 19,305 domestic and international flights scheduled between January 26th and February 1st, 2025.
This represents a 14% increase from last year, while flights between Thailand and China alone are set to rise by 48%, totaling 2,718 flights over the 7-day period. Major airports like Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Phuket, and Chiang Mai will handle significant volumes.
Since the start of 2025, Chinese flights have averaged 269 per day, underscoring China’s importance to Thailand’s tourism and aviation growth. Other key origins for flights include Singapore (99 per day), Malaysia (92), Hong Kong (75), and Taiwan (52).
Air Traffic Control has ramped up personnel, equipment, and air traffic management measures to ensure smooth operations and minimize delays.
Meanwhile, Thai Tourist Police are collaborating with local volunteers to enhance safety and distribute souvenirs to visitors on Yaowarat Road (China Town) in Bangkok, promoting the “Thailand Tourist Police” app and 24-hour hotline 1155.
The government has prioritized cultural preservation and tourism promotion during the Chinese New Year festivities, which coincide with the 50th anniversary of Thai-Chinese diplomatic relations.
