Abandoned Newborn in Pattaya Placed in Orphanage as Mother Decides Next Steps

Pattaya —

A newborn abandoned at a Pattaya hospital has been placed in an orphanage while the mother considers her options.

On January 20th, Banglamung District Chief Mr. Patcharapach Sritanyanon, along with the Banglamung Red Cross Association, gave an update on the situation of a newborn baby who had been abandoned by his mother in front of the delivery room at Pattaya Patthana Hospital on January 17th. The baby was given the nickname “Om,” after the district chief’s nickname, as previously reported.

According to Mr. Patcharapach, the relevant officials ultimately decided to place the nine-day-old baby under the care of the Pattaya Orphanage in Naklua. He stated that the hospital had initially coordinated with the orphanage to take the baby into its care.

The Banglamung Red Cross then visited the facility to deliver the baby, along with personal supplies and a cash donation, as a token of gratitude for the orphanage’s willingness to care for the child. The district chief added that the baby’s mother, who has been identified, was currently not in a position to raise him but was free to visit and check on him. If she becomes ready, she would be able to take him back at any time.

Dr. Wichai Thanasophon, director of the Pattaya Patthana Hospital, revealed that the mother had returned to her hometown to discuss the situation with her parents. While she informed authorities that she wanted to raise the child herself, a decision on whether she could take him back would depend on her ability to provide proper care to the child.
