Pattaya Authorities Demolish Illegal Structures On Soi Jomtien 3 to Combat Illicit Drug Issues

Pattaya —

Pattaya officials have launched a major operation to demolish illegal structures in a crackdown on drug-related crime in Soi Jomtien 3.

The operation followed a crackdown by the Provincial Police Region 2 on January 17th and in December.

More than 900 officers from 23 police stations, along with relevant agencies, carried out an operation to eliminate all forms of crime in the Jomtien area, including Soi 2, 3, and 4.

The operation led to the arrest of over 50 individuals for drug-related offenses, including possession and use. These areas consist mainly of five-story commercial buildings with businesses like beer bars, restaurants, laundromats, and massage shops on the lower floors, while the upper floors are converted into residential rooms. The rear of the community consists of makeshift wooden huts.

On January 20th, authorities used heavy equipment to demolish illegal structures on Soi Jomtien 3 to prevent them from being used to conduct illegal activities. One landowner consented to the demolition, while four other structures had no residents. The complete demolition of these structures is expected to be completed within a month.

There are a total of 24 unauthorized structures, with only one structure receiving consent for demolition. Three are entirely unowned and abandoned. Authorities are negotiating with the owners of the remaining 20 structures.

If the residents agree to vacate and sign a consent form, the demolition will proceed without charge. However, if they refuse, the Pattaya City Council will issue an order under the Building Demolition Act and move forward with the demolition.
