On January 19th, 2025, Dr. Kongsak Yodmanee, the Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, revealed ongoing studies focusing on potential Formula One Grand Prix race venues, including a city circuit along Vibhavadi Rangsit Road in Bangkok.
Discussions have highlighted logistical challenges, including coordination with multiple landowners and agencies overseeing the proposed area. A committee, chaired by the Thai Prime Minister, will soon be formed to oversee site selection and budget proposals, with further meetings expected soon.
Previous studies identified the Chatuchak district as the most promising location for a “city race.” The proposed 5-6 km route would circle three parks: Chatuchak Park, Queen Sirikit Park, and Vachirabenjatas Park (State Railway Public Park).
Other locations considered included U-Tapao Airport, Ratchadamnoen Avenue, Hua Lamphong, and Muang Thong Thani.
The working group plans to present the selected venue to the International Automobile Federation (FIA) for evaluation, although an exact date for this proposal wasn’t given. If approved, Thailand will officially submit its bid to Formula One, aiming to attract 300,000 tourists and generate 12 billion baht in revenue, according to Dr. Kongsak.
