Bangkok has been ranked as the world’s second-best city in 2025 and the top in Asia, according to Time Out’s survey of 20,000 travelers.
According to the rankings, Bangkok stood out for its happiness index, with travelers being satisfied with their quality of life. The city was also praised for its affordability, with 84% of travelers noting that activities such as dining out, grabbing a coffee, or watching a movie are reasonably priced and easily accessible. Additionally, 86% rated the city’s food as either “good” or “excellent.”
Time Out praised Bangkok for more than just being one of the top tourist spots. The city is loved for its friendly people, tasty street food, and exciting nightlife. It also offers fun activities, great bars, and must-see art festivals, helping it rank as the world’s second-best city. According to the rankings, Cape Town took first place, while Bangkok beat New York (3rd), Melbourne (4th), and London (5th).
Bangkok was also named the best city in Asia, ranking higher than Shanghai (9th), Hong Kong (14th), and Hanoi (21st). The rankings were based on people’s opinions about food, nightlife, culture, cost of living, and the city’s overall vibe. This year, livability was a key factor, which focused on safety, happiness, and a welcoming atmosphere.
