Swiss Man Detained After Chaotic Road Incident in Chumphon

Chumphon —

A dramatic scene unfolded in Chumphon on January 17th, 2025, when police were alerted to a speeding black pickup truck reportedly carrying a woman attempting to jump out while shouting for help.

Witnesses claimed the driver, later identified as a Swiss man, had allegedly forced his Thai wife into the vehicle against her will, sparking fears for her safety. It was also noted that their child was in the car.

The incident began in Lang Suan district, where witnesses captured video evidence showing the woman opening the passenger door and attempting to escape as the vehicle sped along.

Rescue workers who witnessed the commotion reported the incident to police, following the vehicle as the man allegedly gestured threateningly, suggesting he was armed. The chase ended when police intercepted the vehicle in Patho district.

The wife, 40-year-old Ms. Lamai, revealed that the argument stemmed from her husband’s jealousy, leading to an altercation. In her attempt to leave, the husband reportedly resisted, resulting in the chaotic pursuit.

Lamai reportedly admitted to being under the influence of wine during the ordeal but confirmed that no weapons were involved.

The Swiss husband, publicly identified only as Mr. Sandro, 37, is now in police custody as investigations continue. Both parties apologized for the disruption caused by the incident.

While detaining Sandro, police noticed the couple acting suspiciously. The couple, whose car emitted a strong odor of drugs, underwent urine testing. Initial results were positive for illegal drug use. A more detailed test at Pathio Hospital confirmed the presence of methamphetamine in their systems.

Sandro was charged with using methamphetamine without authorization, while Lamai, the woman, also faced charges of drug use. The couple confessed to using methamphetamine to relieve physical pain, stating their last use occurred on January 17th during their travels.
Both were transferred to the Pathio Police Station for legal proceedings.
