Thai PM Celebrates Historic Passage of Marriage Equality Law

At 10:00 AM on January 15th, 2025, Thai PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra, alongside prominent political figures and Thai influencers, participated in a historic photo session at Government House to commemorate the enactment of Thailand’s Marriage Equality Law on January 23rd.

Paetongtarn expressed her joy over the law’s passage, stating it reflects Thailand’s commitment to embracing diversity and love in all forms. 

“This law shows that Thailand is ready to support love without limits, ensuring equal legal protection for all couples, regardless of gender,” she said. 

She highlighted the nation’s progress as the first in ASEAN and the third in Asia to legalize marriage equality, calling it a milestone for acceptance and inclusivity.

An event celebrating this achievement is scheduled for January 23rd at Paragon Hall, where the public is invited to join. Paetongtarn thanked lawmakers, civil society, and advocates who championed this cause over two decades, calling it a moment of pride for all Thais.

After the ceremony, Paetongtarn warmly greeted LGBTQ+ couples attending the event, taking photos and engaging in lively conversations.
