Swiss Man Injured After Thai Man Attacks Him at Pattaya Bar Following Dispute Over a Game of Pool

Pattaya, Thailand- In the early hours of this morning, January 16th, an altercation at a local bar in Soi Khao Talo, in Pattaya led to the injury of a Swiss national, identified only as Mr. Devin, aged 36.

The incident was reported at 00:36 AM to the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Unit in Pattaya. Responding swiftly, both police from Nongprue Police Station and rescue volunteers arrived at the scene to find Mr. Devin suffering from a wrist injury caused by being struck with a snooker cue.

Mr. Anan Waengwan, a 30-year-old Thai local, was identified as the assailant. He was found to be heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident. According to Mr. Waengwan, the conflict arose after a game of pool where he accused Mr. Devin of cheating. He claimed that the fight escalated because Mr. Devin had allegedly hurt him first, leading to his retaliatory action with the cue.
The bar owner, whose name was withheld, who witnessed the event, confirmed that both individuals were engaged in a game of pool at his establishment. He stated that after losing, Mr. Waengwan accused Mr. Devin of cheating. Despite the owner’s attempts to de-escalate the situation, Mr. Waengwan, in his inebriated state, ignored the warnings and assaulted Mr. Devin. The bar owner promptly notified the police. The owner did not see any evidence of Mr. Devin hurting Mr. Waengwan first as claimed.
Mr. Devin received immediate first aid from rescue workers on site before being transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment. Meanwhile, Mr. Waengwan was detained by the police for further investigation into the assault.
