Young Motorcyclists Slap Indian Tourists Heads in South Pattaya, Locals Outraged

Pattaya —

A group of young motorcyclists were seen slapping the heads of Indian tourists walking in South Pattaya. The incident sparked outrage among locals who said it hurt the city’s world-class image.

The incident first came to light after the Facebook page “อยากดังเดี๋ยวจัดให้ รีเทิร์น พาร์ท 6” posted a video from a security camera showing a group of young people on motorcycles approaching a group of Indian tourists walking along the street in South Pattaya.

One of the motorcycle passengers was then seen reaching out and slapping one of the tourists on the head. The post included a message: “Does this hurt our tourism image?…” The post also mentioned similar incidents happening in Pattaya where young motorcycle riders were accused of harassing foreign tourists on the road up to Pratumnak Hill. This happens every night from 10 PM onwards, with many tourists walking in the area while the riders slap tourists on the head, the page said.

Today, January 15th, The Pattaya News reporters visited the incident scene on South Pattaya Road, heading toward Pratumnak Hill. They spoke with Mr. Santa, a 58-year-old Indian businessman, who said that similar incidents had occurred frequently over the past week.

The most recent incident occurred at around 10:58 PM on January 14th, 2025. Two suspects, approximately 20 years old, were riding a motorcycle when they slapped the head of an Indian tourist, nearly causing them to fall. Afterward, they quickly rode away.

Ms. Nat, a 28-year-old traditional Thai massage therapist who witnessed the event, recounted that while she was about to close her shop, she saw the perpetrators slap the head of an Indian tourist on the street near Soi VC. She shouted to the suspects, “Why slap them? What did they do wrong?” She added that the incident left her feeling disgusted.

Mr. Tao, a local motorcycle taxi driver, stated that such incidents happened many times. Sometimes, the suspects were even in school uniforms.

The area in question is a business hub for many Indian nationals, which houses many hotels, restaurants, massage parlors, and travel agencies. Local police are currently gathering information to identify and apprehend the suspects.

Prominent Indian Thai community groups have also called for the suspects to be immediately arrested and held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.
