On January 13th, 2025, former Thai PM Thaksin Shinawatra joined the “Chat with Tony: Bull Rally of Thai Capital Market” dinner talk, organized by Khao Hoon newspaper. He highlighted pressing national issues and proposed solutions to restore public confidence.

Thaksin emphasized the urgent need to combat PM2.5 pollution, suggesting stricter measures against open burning in agriculture and putting forward sustainable practices. He also called for collaboration with the private sector and the public to reduce harmful emissions.

Addressing scams and illegal activities, Thaksin revealed his efforts as an ASEAN advisor to mediate the ongoing Myanmar conflict and curb cross-border crimes like call center scams and drug trafficking, advocating decisive action.

Thaksin also discussed the controversial entertainment complex bill, which includes a casino, arguing its potential to generate over 100 billion baht in tax revenue annually while ensuring robust digital ID systems to control underage gambling and addiction.

Concerning economic growth, Thaksin proposed giving incentive to companies to establish headquarters in rural provinces and using digital wallets to stimulate local economies. He expressed confidence in achieving GDP growth of over 3% in 2025, aiming for 4% and 5% in subsequent years.

Finally, he called for unity among political parties and government agencies to address national challenges, urging collaborative efforts to propel Thailand’s economy forward.
