Tigers and Rare Wildlife Thriving in Kaeng Krachan Forest

Prachuap Khiri Khan —

On January 12th, 2025, Mongkol Chaipakdee, the head of Kaeng Krachan National Park, revealed that the park’s SMART Patrol teams have successfully documented diverse wildlife populations through systematic monitoring. This included a four-day, three-night rubber raft survey along the Phetchaburi River.

The patrol gathered data from 10 camera traps set in wildlife corridors, capturing images of various species.

Among them were apex predators like tigers and leopards, protected species such as gaurs and Asiatic black bears, and endangered animals like tapirs. Other sightings included clouded leopards, barking deer, porcupines, and pig-tailed macaques.

One tiger, identified as KKT-04, a healthy female, was recorded. The findings underscore the rich biodiversity of the Kaeng Krachan World Heritage Site, attributed to intensified patrol efforts. Mongkol praised the team for their skill and dedication, noting no injuries occurred despite the challenging terrain of the forest and rapids.
