Human Bones Found in Suitcase Along Chonburi Roadside Near Huai Yai

Chonburi —

A suitcase containing human bones was found by the roadside in Chonburi province, shocking local residents.

At 7:06 PM on January 11th, Huai Yai police received a report of human bones being found stuffed in a suitcase near the roadside of the Huai Yai Municipality road before Highway 331 in Chonburi province. Upon receiving the report, police immediately proceeded to the scene, along with the Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation from Pattaya and reporters from The Pattaya News.

At the scene, authorities found a 32-inch suitcase discarded in a roadside drainage ditch, partially concealed by tall grass. Upon opening the suitcase, they discovered human skeletal remains estimated to be over three months old. Inside, there was also a brown crew-neck shirt, green underwear, and a white-and-pink towel. The police documented the findings as evidence.

Two construction workers, Mr. Piraphat, 25, and Mr. Mongkol, 30, told police they found the suitcase. They said they were driving back to their worker’s camp when the rear right tire of their vehicle burst, causing them to stop by the roadside to replace it.

While exiting the vehicle, Mr. Piraphat noticed the suitcase in the grass and approached it. He called Mr. Mongkol to help retrieve it, and upon opening it, they were shocked to find a human skull. After regaining their composure, they immediately called the police.

Mr. Yothin, a 33-year-old worker from the Department of Highways, told police that on January 8th, while operating a road grader to level the road surface, he noticed the suitcase in the same spot but didn’t open or move it, thinking it was just trash. As a result, he didn’t think much of it until hearing news about its gruesome contents.

Huai Yai police stated that the remains would be sent to the Police General Hospital’s forensic institute for a detailed autopsy and identification.

Meanwhile, about three hours after the discovery of the remains, a Thai family arrived at the scene, claiming the bones might belong to their missing brother.

Mr. Surasak, 37, revealed to the media that his elder brother, Mr. Sirisak Fuengsoongnern, 56, had been missing nearly three months ago since November 2024. The family had filed a missing person report at the Sattahip Police Station on December 30th.

Mr. Surasak explained that his brother, who worked as a painter, disappeared without a trace and could not be contacted. Adding to the mystery, someone once called their brother-in-law to claim that Mr. Sirisak had died in another province. It wasn’t until they saw a live broadcast on social media about the remains found in a suitcase that they decided to visit the incident scene.

Mr. Surasak said his brother was a thin man who was approximately 170 cm tall. However, he was unsure whether the skeletal remains found in the suitcase were his brother’s.

The police invited Mr. Surasak to the Huai Yai Police Station for further questioning. During the investigation, the police contacted Mr. Sirisak’s employer and coworkers, who stated that he was last seen allegedly riding a motorcycle in the Kilometer 10 area of Sattahip district about two weeks ago, which possibly disputed the statements of being missing for three months or being the deceased.

The case is still ongoing.
