Nakhon Ratchasima Battles Fourth Wildfire, Over 1,000 Rai Lost This Year

Nakhon Ratchasima —

At 10:00 AM on January 9th, 2025, a wildfire reignited at Khao Loi in Pak Chong District, Nakhon Ratchasima, after being previously contained on January 8th.

Northeast Forest Fire Control Center 3 deployed 35 personnel and collaborated with five agencies, including Khao Yai National Park and the Phayayen Subdistrict Administrative Organization, to combat the fire.

Firebreaks were created to protect nearby homes, and an AK32 helicopter was scheduled to assist in firefighting efforts.

Despite overnight operations, the fire remained uncontrolled at press time and was expected to spread to lower ground near the Royal Givery Resort by noon today, January 10th. This marks the fourth wildfire in the area since New Year, with over 200 rai destroyed in this incident alone, adding to nearly 1,000 rai lost to fires this year.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles in the USA faces devastating wildfires, including the “Sunset Fire” in Hollywood Hills, which had doubled in size to 20 acres within minutes. At least five people have died, and hundreds of homes have been destroyed.
Over 100,000 residents have been ordered to evacuate as hurricane-force winds and dry conditions hinder containment efforts.

Local authorities report five active fire zones, with two major blazes on the city’s eastern and western outskirts still spreading. Power outages affect nearly one million buildings, while all schools across Los Angeles County were closed through January 9th. Early estimates by AccuWeather place economic damages at over $50 billion USD.

As we reported earlier today here, the Thai PM has pledged assistance to Thai citizens impacted by the fires living in the LA area, which has a significant Thai population.
